Dave Kilgo is an actor, writer, director, producer and co-founder of Sprankle Studios. He was born in Winston Salem, N.C. and studied theater at the University of Alabama where he specialized in voice, acting and playwriting. Dave has been acting on screen for years and began doing it professionally in 2007.
Though he has been screenwriting since the age of 16, Dave began moving into production later in college with his first short, Jason and Jason, which first screened at 2006’s Rocket City Film Festival. In 2007, he wrote and directed the political satire, I-CAN-D, which screened at several film festivals including Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival and Magnolia Independent Film Festival. Though only 10 minutes long, production took nearly a year and Dave lost 40 pounds in order to play Tripp. He still considers I-CAN-D the most challenging film he has ever made but also the most rewarding. In 2008, he directed Christmas Cookies, a dark holiday themed short, which was Dave’s first true directorial effort with Sprankle Studios, as well as his first in which he was not also an actor. Though he has extensively acted for Sprankle Studios, Dave primarily serves as a producer.
Dave was a finalist in 2007’s Sidewalk Sidewrite for his short script “The Reunion” and currently has one feature length spec optioned by KO Pictures. Aside from film, he has also directed for the stage as well a music video for New War by Atlanta based rap duo, Below tha Surface. Currently, Dave is hard at work on several projects and plans to make the transition into feature film sometime in the near future.
